Abstract

Markmið rannsóknarinnar var að skoða samband vinnsluminnis (e. working memory), mynsturflæðis (e. figural fluency) og hugmyndagerjunar (e. incubation) þegar kemur að skapandi vandamálalausn. Fyrri rannsóknir gera ráð fyrir að vinnsluminni og hugmyndagerjun séu alls aðskilin ferli, en sambandið hefur ekki verið skoðað beint fram til þessa. Rannsóknin fólst því í að prófa þessa tilgátu. Þátttakendur voru 56 (Maldur = 23.75), þar af 42 konur og 14 karlar. Það var marktækur munur á skapandi vandamálalausn eftir vinnsluminni, en ekki eftir mynsturflæði. Engin marktæk samvirkni kom í ljós, hvorki á milli vinnsluminnis og hugmyndagerjunar né á milli mynsturflæðis og hugmyndagerjunar. Áhugavert var þó að í báðum tilvikum hölluðust gögnin í átt að samvirkni, þar sem þeir sem höfðu betri stýrifærni (vinnsluminni eða mynsturflæði) hlutu meira gagn af hugmyndagerjun við skapandi vandamálalausn heldur en þeir sem höfðu verri stýrifærni. This study looked at the relationship between working memory, figural fluency, and incubation in creative problem solving. Prior research suggests that the roles of working memory and incubation are separate and unrelated, although this relationship has not previously been examined directly. This study aimed to support or dispute this assumption. There were 56 participants (Mage = 23.75), of which there were 42 women and 14 men. Working memory was evaluated using an operational span task and figural fluency was assessed using the Ruff Figural Fluency Test. Creative problem solving and the incubation effect were evaluated using the Unusual Uses Task (UUT), where half of the participants were placed in a distraction condition. There was a significant difference in performance on the UUT based on working memory, although no significant figural fluency or incubation effect was found. Due to both figural fluency and working memory showing an unanticipated, although non-significant, trend where better task performance interacted positively with incubation’s effect on UUT scores, this relationship is worth further examination.
