Abstract

Strategies to improve the rate of physical inactivity in America have not provided affordable and accessible exercise programs for everyone. Meanwhile, public parks are at close proximity to many community residents but are not utilized maximally to increase physical activity among communities. The purpose of this project was to create a Program Operations Manual for Kinesiology students within the southwest region of the United States to use as a guide to implement a community based exercise program. Through the implementation of two Program Expansion Training sessions, Kinesiology undergraduate students learned the basic sustainable structure of the program. In a span of 1.5 years, four schools established independent 100 Citizens programs. Advisors/Committee Members: Loy, Steven F (advisor), Henige, Kim (committee member).
