This study is an exploration of the attitude of low socio-economic whites and non-whites toward themselves and standardized testing and an attempt to determine if an individual's self-image is related to his attitude toward testing. A Self-Image Example-Anchored Rating Scale was developed and administered to determine an individual's self-concept. A Semantic Differential Rating Scale was adapted to determine attitude toward standardized testing. The Semantic Differential also investigated attitudes toward authority, peer groups and surroundings. Two hundred East-San Francisco Bay Area continuation school students, homogeneously grouped, comprised the population. The Semantic Differential and Self-Image Example-Anchored Rating Scale were administered in four continuation schools, results were tabulated and subjected to computer analysis. Self-Image ratings divided the population into four groups. These four groups were analyzed for correlations and variance. A factor analysis was performed to determine relationship of variables. Results of the investigation demonstrated significant relationship between self-image and attitude toward standardized testing.
