Abstract

Technology today has affected society and its surroundings. Technology is rapidly evolving creating opportunities and challenges even in educational institutions. It is creating opportunities such as access to rich multimedia content, access to worldwide information along with the use of online teaching not otherwise available. This tool is an attempt to introduce technology in teaching the US relationship with Philippines. The period covered is roughly late 1890 through today. The motivation behind this application is to design and build an interactive tool to help users learn about the important events during the US relationship with the Philippines. The menu items are carefully organized to depict the sequence of events as they occurred. The user can select an event from the menu, which further displays points of interest and a timeline for that event. The user can click on these points to open a webpage to learn more about them. To emphasize the important events, videos and images are embedded in the webpages and timeline is used to depict the flow of events. The timeline allows the users to navigate between events and view videos and images related to an event embedded in the timeline. Map Objects - Java Edition, Java, Eclipse IDE, timeline.js and bootstrap.js technologies were used to develop this tool.
