Abstract

The emphasis of this thesis is mainly to develop an easy to use Geographic Information systems (GIS) Tool that provides an insight into some of the important natural wonders and topography of China, and also a small glimpse into its recent rich history. The tool has been developed in JAVA. For maps of China, MOJO (Map Objects Java Objects) is used. MOJO is developed by ESRI (Environmental Science Research Institute). The majority of the features in the tool were designed using MOJO. The main focus of this tool is to provide a multimedia map based insight into some of China's history. The map also integrates key natural features of China like the mountains, caves, national parks and man-made wonders. This tool has numerous hypertext markup language (HTML) pages. The user can click on locations, which results in opening up HTML pages using a custom toolbar. The HTML pages have various information like history, an image gallery and embedded video links. All these features have been built by using HTML5. The tool also contains an interactive drag and drop quiz where the user will be tested on knowledge of the tool. The end user with no trouble can acquire more information about these features just by clicking on each of them. The tool was deliberately kept very simple and effortless to use. To retain the user's interest in the tool, vital features are described using an image gallery and videos in the HTML pages. The idea behind using these features is that it will aid the end users by increasing their interest in learning more about China
