Abstract

The purpose of this project was to create a handbook for therapists working with the Armenian community. The focus of the handbook is to expand therapists??? cultural competence through the application of the ADDRESSING Model, which was originally developed by Pamela Hays (1996). The handbook will serve as a tool to help therapists explore personal areas of cultural influence (i.e., age, disability, socioeconomic status, national origin, ethnicity, etc.), as well as cultural influences on Armenian clients. Through consideration of cultural influences on both personal and client experience, therapists will be able to ask appropriate questions, explore cultural factors, cultivate therapeutic understanding, and develop culturally sensitive treatment plans.
