Abstract

This study compares a LeadCare © II blood lead analyzer with a LeadCare © I blood lead analyzer and determines the correlation of the analytical results. Subjects recruited for a blood lead level monitoring study during a building demolition/renovation project participated in this study. A total of 12 eligible study participants were recruited. Two background samples (background 1 and background 2) were collected via venipuncture. Background 1 sample results from the LeadCare © I analyzer ranged from < 1.4 to 4.1 µg/dL. The background 1 sample mean was 1.75 µg/dL with a SD ± 0.80. Results for the background 2 sample ranged from < 1.4 to 2.7 with a mean of 1.53 µg/dL and a SD ± 0.39. The lower reportable range of the LeadCare © II is 3.3 µg/dL and 1.4 µg/dL for the LeadCare © I. Most of the sample results reported by the LeadCare © I were less than 3.3 µg/dL making a comparison with the LeadCare © II impractical.
