Abstract

"It is generally accepted that the presence, in the lead button, of a small amount of tellurium causes, during cupellation, a loss of gold. Little, however, is known as to the loss, when tellurium is present, due to variation in the temperature of cupellation...Our work was carried on with the intention of determining the loss of gold, due to temperature in the presence of known amount of tellurium and to compare this loss with that caused by the temperature alone. Has temperature the same, a greater, or a less effect on the loss of gold during cupellation when tellurium is present or when tellurium is absent? This question was our intention to solve" – leaf [1].
