The apparatus is shown in block form in figure 1 and can conveniently be considered to fall into three main categories: the fast side, the slow side and the calibration circuitry. The pulse height compensator forms a link between the fast and slow sides and its function is discussed separately in section I, (5b). Both the fast and slow sides are identical in concept to the system described by Bell et al (1) and are known as a fast-slow delayed coincidence circuit.
