The purpose of this thesis is to examine the validity of two approximations encountered in the study of hypernuclei. The first involves the treatment of the hard core in the nucleon-nucleon, or ^-nucleon, potential. In particular, a boundary perturbation formula which purports to describe the effects of a hard core is tested by means of comparison with exact calculations for the case of the deuteron.
