This thesis does not attempt to present any complete picture of the period 1760-1791 in Canada, even though the French party of Adam Mabane was an important influence in Canadian affairs throughout most of those years. It attempts, rather, to trace the growth of one political group, and many of the events of the period that did not seem to pertain directly to that growth have thus been omitted. More particularly, this thesis is subject to the same limitations from which the French party suffered throughout its career: Its emphasis is entirely upon the political, judicial, and religious aspects of the period, almost to the exclusion of economic and social aspects.[...]
