The present experiment is an attempt to show how conditions that lead to a fixated response may account for some contradictory results in learning experiments. More specifically, it will be shown that overlearning fixates a response in terms of its kinesthetic-motor pattern so that a fixated response will not readily give way to more appropriate behavior under experimental conditions that require a change in the kinesthetic-motor response.
