"The solubility of solid paraffins in the lower molecular weight liquid hydrocarbons offers a problem of some considerable commercial importance since it is by use of these low boiling hydrocarbons that the undesirable paraffin waxes are removed from lubricating oils in the Sharples process. Little data is to be found in the literature on the solubility of the paraffin waxes, and that which is available is of a very general nature...This work was undertaken for the purpose of finding if possible, what effect this "cracking" or "telescoping" process has on the solubility of the paraffins in the liquid hydrocarbons" – Introduction, p. 1-2.
