Abstract

In electrowinning of metals from aquous solutions and in many other electrochemical industries where insoluble anodes are necessary, lead and lead-base alloys are among the most important anode materials. Other anodes may be desirable under certain circumstances but lead and lead alloy anodes hold their unique position whenever the electrolyte used happens to be a sulfate solution and, since sulfuric acid is a cheap solvant which is widely used in electrochemical and electrometallurgical processes, lead and lead alloy anodes have frequently been found unsurpassable in practice.
