"Pursuant to your orders regarding the making of experimental tests on the high-grade silver concentrate of the Buffalo Mill, both on a small and a commercial scale, to determine the feasibility of extracting the silver contents and refining the same to 999-fine bullion I beg to submit the results of my work which has extended through the past two months. In the majority of the tests I have used a small Abbe-Engineering pebble-jars which will hold easily 1500 grams of ore and have checked the results obtained in these cases by similar results obtained by charging 1000 lbs. of ore into an 8-foot Hardinge pebble-mill. The tests were all made carefully in order to obtain results that would not be misleading. The results are as true as the means of handling the material would allow and as much accuracy was used as was consistent. Certain assumptions were made that have been found advisable by long continued experimenting on the same class of ore by Mr. Watson of the Nipissing Mines, namely, the strength of the KCN solution used and the amount of mercury used in each charge. I have checked the assurances of Mr. Watson by varying the strength of the KCN and the ratio of the mercury used to the ore charged and am satisfied as to the correctness of his assertations concerning the same" – [letter to Mr. T.R.
