Abstract

The study of pre-literacy prophecy reveals the fact that the spiritual development of Israel's relieion did not have its beginning with the classical prophets but rather that their work was made possible by what preceded it, beginning with the revelation to Moses of the one true God who demanded of his people an ethical righteousness. The history of pre-literary prophecy then is the history of great personalities and the way in which they built upon each other's work until they had constructed that firm foundation necessary for the super-structure built by those other great men whom we call the literary prophets, (pages 40, 41).
