The following investigations have been carried out on recommendation and with the financial assistance of the Associate Committee of Army Medical Research of the National Research Council of Canada and constitute two independent research problems. Part I deals with a study of the feasibility of sprouted cereal and legume seeds as a source of vitamins in the army ration for troups in isolated areas. This work has been carried out at Macdonald College under the direction of Dr. W. D. McFarlane. Part II deals with a study of the vitamin metabolism in patients suffering from various types of acute damage. This investigation has been carried out at the McGill University Clinic of the Royal Victoria Hospital under the direction of Dr. J. S. L. Browne, and is a continuation of previous similar studies under Dr. M. E. Hunter. The results on the metabolic studies on cases 80, 84, 86, 87, 88, 89 and 92 are taken from her work.
