Abstract
While chemical kinetics is one of the older branches of physical chemistry, having started in 1867 when Guldberg and Waage enunciated the mass law, its development has been slow. It has only been during the last decade that it has become an important field of chemistry. Hlnshelwood in 1926 opened up a new field when he discovered that the thermal decomposition of several organic compounds was homogeneous and first order.
