Abstract

"A method for the determination of certain constituents in fluorspar has been studied. Fluorspar can be complete decomposed by fuming with perchloric acid. Agitation and boiling is essential to a rapid and quantitative decomposition. Lead, ferric oxide, titanium oxide, aluminum oxide and total calcium have been quantitatively determined in the solution obtained by the perchloric acid method of decomposition. Silica cannot be determined quantitatively by the use of perchloric acid alone. Preferential solution of calcium carbonate by means of very dilute perchloric acid cannot be used as a method for determining calcium in carbonates in the presence of calcium fluoride" – Summary, p. 34.
