Abstract

[...] The chief objects of the present investigation are: 1. Continuation of the detailed study of glycolysis in blood. 2. To ascertain whether glucose is the sole source of pyruvic acid formed in the red blood cells during storage. 3. To determine the reason for certain fluctuations observed by Mrs. Andreae in the copper-reducing values of protein-free filtrates of preserved blood containing added dextrose. 4. To ascertain whether there is any relation between the loss of viability of the red blood cell and its glycolytic state.
