Abstract

"In the graphical analyses of Stresses in Framed Structures, we study, by means of diagrams, the stability or equilibrium of structures and the relation between the external forces and the stresses created in the members of the frame. The principle involved is that we may represent any force both as to direction and intensity by a straight line, by considering the direction of the line to be identical with that of the force and adjusting its length according to any arbitrary unit adopted for the forces under consideration. By this means we can solve the stresses in framed structures with a wonderful degree of accuracy. True not absolutely correct but as nearly accurate as the practical design of any member in the structure can be" – Pages 13-14.
