Abstract

Video coding and video transmission are developed to meet the varying multimedia device requirements. With the rapid growth of video resolution and display quality, some grand issues, such as fast mode decision, video resource allocation, video quality optimization and video transcoding become more and more important. This dissertation is to enhance the efficiency of video coding and video transmission in wireless video transmission system. Fist part of this dissertation proposes a fast mode decision based on coded block patterns to save the encoding time of video compression. Second part of this dissertation is to select the appropriate relay to transmit the video streaming through significance analysis of each layer. Third part is to analyze the correlation between coded block complexity and coding mode so that the transcoding time can be reduced significantly. This dissertation tries to accelerate the encoding time of video compression and transcoding and to obtain the better video quality for video transmission over cooperative communication networks.
