The resolution trans αγ-dimethylglutaconic acid was first effected by Mc. Combs, Packer, and Thorpe (J. C. S. in 1931) 134, 547), by means of the acid strychnine salt, use being made of the fact that the l-acid salt is sparingly soluble in acetone whereas the d-acid salt is freely soluble.
