Abstract

In my thesis, I will examine the law and practice of the right to education of persons belonging to the Yi minority in Zhaojue by obligations of Chinese governments under international human rights law. My focus is on the nine-year compulsory education in China. After discussing the issues of school fees and bilingual education in Zhaojue, my conclusion is that Chinese government have not performed its obligations under the international human rights law and even its domestic law and policies for ensuring free education to all school-aged children and the protection of identity of Yi.
