This thesis highlights legal challenges connected to the use of Private Contracted Armed Security Personnel (PCASP) on board merchant vessels. Use of PCASP became relevant in the mid-2000s due to the increase of piracy attacks outside the coast of Somalia. The use of PCASP is not an evident solution and implies legal challenges on several levels.
