Abstract

This thesis examines the progressive aspects of Islamism by conducting a case study of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. By applying the modernization theory of Inglehart and Welzel (2005), it examines the Muslim Brotherhood's attitudes towards a set of questions derived from the modernization theory. As such, it attempts to discover if the attitudes displayed by the Muslim Brotherhood is compatible with factors shown to create development, modernization, and ultimately, democracy.
