Abstract

With the emergence of the internet, there has been a revolution as far as the mode of carrying out business is concerned. From the traditional face to face human interaction and trading, to now the modern electronic commerce, which is carried out in total disregard to geographical or political boundaries. Electronic commerce, has transformed and challenged the existing legal frameworks concerning business. This has brought in new problems and legal requirements so as to protect consumers and boost the increasingly indispensable mode of trade. While some countries and jurisdictions have decided to adopt new laws and legislations, so as to among other reasons, protect consumers, some other countries such as Uganda have been slow to rise up to the challenge, and as a result are still faced with the old laws and legal frameworks that existed before the advent of electronic commerce. The thesis is an analysis of Uganda's legal framework, aimed at probing its ability to offer legal remedies and redress to Ugandan electronic commerce consumers.
