Abstract
The conduct of war in Vietnam corresponds closely to voting dropoff in the United States. I try to show that the ideological assumptions that underlied the Vietnam War led directly to U.S. defeat and thus to public doubt in the validity of the American Dream and the concept of "America." The thesis covers the period from 1945 to John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963.
