Abstract

Arterial wall inflammation is the key process in atherosclerosis, the disease that leads to cardiovascular events and death. Early detection of inflammation of the artery wall is possible using magnetic resonance imaging, allowing arterial wall dimension measurements. Using a 18F-fluordeoxyglucose positron emission tomography, arterial wall inflammatory activity can be visualized and measured directly, which allows even better detection of cardiovascular disease. High-density lipoprotein exerts vasculoprotective effects which, when applied near the artery wall, improves in vivo compatibility of prosthetic grafts.
