This thesis describes the design and first implementation of an online system for lifelong learning, that enables educational institutions to adapt the learning process to identifiable groups of adult learners. The design of this system is situated in the context of a distance teaching university on the threshold of the transition to fully online education, acknowledging the importance of lifelong learning, and willing to accept the consequences in terms of pedagogical concept, business processes, and designing and implementing a new platform with services to support learners, teachers and faculty management.
