Collection of requirements is also referenced as requirements elicitation. For requirements elicitation there are a number of different methods available. Which method is the most adequate method for requirements elicitation in a specific situation? The framework by Carrizo et al. (2014) has three steps to enable engineers to identify and classify a situation and find the most adequate elicitation method. Fifteen elicitation methods were studied within this framework. The insights and overview of the theoretical research on requirements elicitation is considered as the 'ideal state'. The empirical study that was executed in the second part of the research is considered as the 'actual state'. In the final part of the research, the 'ideal' and 'actual' states have been compared. The focus has been on differences, commonalities and steps that could be taken to improve the 'actual' state. Based on the comparison analysis between 'ideal' and 'actual state' it became clear that the most important difference is the lack of attention for elicitation selection in practice. Most of the time the selection of the elicitation method is based on experience.
