Abstract

Metal Matrix Composites possess significantly improved properties newlineincluding high specific strength specific modulus damping capacity and newlinegood wear resistance compared to unreinforced alloys Aluminium material newlinehas been most attracted as matrix element in composites due to its special newlineproperties such as lower density higher ductility and high strength to weight newlineratio Out of the various techniques adopted for the manufacturing of newlineparticulate reinforced aluminium matrix composites powder metallurgy newlinetechnique has its own advantages such as ease of manufacturing lower newlinemanufacturing cost uniform distribution of alloying elements throughout the newlinematrix newlineIn this investigation elemental 6061 Al powder with composition newlinein weight percent of 0 3 Cu 0 7 Fe 1 2 Mg 0 6 Si 0 25 Zn newline0 3 Mn balance Al with an average particle size of alloying elements 30and#956;m newlineand an aluminium particle size of 150 and#956;m 20 and#956;m and 800nm was used in newlinethis work TiC with average particle size 1and#956;m had been used as particulate newlinereinforcements with varying weight percent of 1 5 and 10 Elemental newlinepowders along with appropriate weight percent of alloying elements were newlinehomogeneously mixed and compacted at various pressure newline newline%%%reference p109-119.
