Abstract

Recent advances in wireless technologies have resulted in much newlinebetter way of communication and cheaper wireless handheld devices Ad hoc newlinewireless networks provide mobile communication capability to satisfy a need newlineof a temporary nature and without the existence of any well defined newlineinfrastructure Each node plays the role of a mobile router in forming a path to newlinereach from a source to the destination newlineCongestion may occur in a network if the load on the network is newlinegreater than the capacity of the network Thus network congestion can newlinedegrade the network s overall performance The performance of the MANET newlineis dependent on the effective congestion control mechanisms If no proper newlinecongestion control is performed this can lead to a congestion collapse of the newlinenetwork where almost no packet is successfully delivered newlineIn wired networks congestion control is implemented at the newlinetransport layer and is often designed separately from the functions of other newlinelayers However such congestion control techniques do not apply directly to newlinead hoc networks which involve special challenges like limited wireless newlinebandwidth power constraints and route failures due to node mobility and newlinelimited buffer size newline newline%%%reference p157-168.
