Abstract

Sound transmission in buildings is a problem that exists in many countries and many newlinedifferent solutions are adopted to achieve acceptable levels of sound insulation. In recent newlinedays usage of light weight building structures are widely used in the construction industry newlineas an easier and cost effective method. With the expansion of real estate activities and newlinenewer building materials the need to attend the sound insulation requirements for both newlinestructure borne and airborne sound also assumes greater dimensions. The problem however newlineis closely associated with several aspects of building construction, which include its layout, newlinetypes of materials used in construction and other building service requirements. Apart from newlineconventional materials, studies have undergone with the use fibre reinforced ferrocement newlinepanels in the construction. This type of construction exhibits easier and cost effective newlineoptimized solutions, fibres used with ferrocement panels provide better natural newlineperformance on strength and thermal insulation behavior too. This property enhances the newlineenergy efficient character of the building; nevertheless in an acoustical sense the studies newlineare not very informative which require deeper investigation. newline%%%
