Abstract

Software reliability for business applications is becoming a topic of newlineinterest in IT community Fault injection involves the deliberate insertion of newlinefaults or errors into software in order to determine its response and to study its newlinebehavior Fault Injection Experiments have proven to be an effective method newlinefor measuring and studying response of defects validating fault tolerant newlinesystems, and observing how systems behave in the presence of faults The newlineresearcher has identified a need to understand the defect prediction leakage newlineand amplification patterns in business applications which would benefit the newlineIndian IT industry which is moving towards quantitative process management newlineand high maturity processes This research study examines fault injection newlinetechniques to understand the behaviour of defect leakage and amplifications in newlinebusiness software applications development The objectives of this research are newlineto measure and study defect leakage analyse amplification of defects and newlineunderstand Domino effect of defects leaked across the software development newlinelife cycle phases newlineThe strategy for fault injection patterns undertaken in this research study newlineis, validated by two approaches taken to arrive at the Amplification Index AI newlinewhich represents the effect caused by defects in subsequent phases of software newlinedevelopment newline newline%%%reference p219-260, reference p261-275.
