Abstract

The principle object of the present study entitled, “History of English Literature in Pre-post Independence India: A Critical Evaluation” is undertaken with a view to study it critically. It aims at highlighting different aspects of novels before and after independence. An attempt has also been made to signify novels of Mulk Raj Anand, Raja Rao and Manohar Malgonkar as a truly Indian expatriate. The entitled thesis is a modest attempt to bring to light the remarkable work undertaken by major novelists like M.R.Anand, Raja Rao and Manohar Malgonkar in Indian Writing in English. Thus, the very end of this study is to review their employed varied techniques conveying vision of life. It also reflects distinctive features of their novels and the symbolic significance of fictional work, mood, tone and technical strategy by characterizing Indian English today. In order to show how the English literature begin in India before 1920 and how it developed in India has first been observed in chapter I entitled „Introduction‟. In Chapter II entitled „History of Indian English literature‟ highlights the renaissance in Indian literature. The reformist such as Aurobindo, Rammohan Roy etc. and their contribution in renaissance movement. Impact of English literature on India is also discussed in detail in this chapter.%%%References included
