Abstract

With growing demand of network utilization for high speed video newlineVoice data and mobility services by users service providers face a newlinetremendous challenge to increase the available bandwidth for users Existing newlinebackhaul solutions like T 1 E 1 and DSL support transmission data rate in 2 newlineMbps and guarantee QoS but are reaching their limits to keep up with newlinebandwidth requests because of escalating costs and limited scalability newlineBroadband wireless access networks like GSM WiFi WiMAX and LTE newlineprovide a solution to the scenario with high capacity bandwidth links supporting newlinebandwidth intensive applications Among the different network access solutions newlineavailable PON emerges as the most assuring cost effective and highperformance newlinesolution Integrating both wireless and optical access network newlinetechnologies is essential in the evolution of a new generation wired wireless newlineaccess which would see the integration of the latest advances in optics and newlineelectronics A major challenge in such a process is the selection of the right newlinebandwidth allocation algorithm since it is exclusively responsible for the newlineallocation of resources in the system The wireless technologies focused in this newlinework are WiMAX and LTE EPON is chosen for the optical part of the network newline newline%%%reference p164-171.
