Abstract

Acrylic and methacrylic polymers are used extensively in academic newlineand industrial research These monomers are being used to synthesize a newlinenumber of polymers due to the versatility of the synthetic routes for these newlinemonomers Acrylic and methacrylic monomers can be tailor made for specific newlineapplications By changing the side chain acrylic and methacrylic polymer newlinepolarity can be tuned within the polarity from hydrophilic to hydrophobic newlineWhile poly acrylic acid PAA is hydrophilic poly ethylene glycol grafted newlineonto a methacrylate backbone is significantly more hydrophobic Most acrylic newlineand methacrylic polymers possessing intermediate side chain polarities are newlineamphiphilic As a result they were used expansively in various fields newlinePolymer branching was utilized in the design of polymers with more or less newlineadhesion than the linear counterparts depending on the desired use of the newlinematerial Antibacterial polymers have attracted the polymer researchers for newlinetheir applications in adhesives and coating technology newlineThe present investigation deals with the synthesis of new acrylic newlineand methacrylic monomers and their polymers and copolymers with aromatic newlineand phenolic moiety that may contribute the adhesive and coating science to newlinemake better adhesive with antibacterial property newlineAcrylic and methacrylic monomers M1M6 were prepared by newlinereacting hydroxy substituted compound with acryloyl or methacryloyl newlinechloride in the presence of triethylamine newline newline%%%reference p158-174.
