Abstract

It is known that the presence of sag and swell in the voltage profile of any power systems affects the quality of power to a great extent Certain vital installations used in defense and process industries require power of good quality which is free of sag and swell If not these installations would experience disastrous consequences Hence the reduction of the sag and swell content in the voltage profile is essential and it will result in improved power quality also newlineThe conventional UPFC comprising of shunt voltage and series current sources is being used to reduce voltage sag in a power system at present However it has the drawbacks of complex control of current source, ineffective simultaneous control of real and reactive power and high THD To overcome these drawbacks the following schemes have been proposed and analyzed for their performance in terms of power quality newline newline%%%appendix p136-160,reference p161-167.
