Abstract

Switched Reluctance Hub Motors SRHMs are well suited for newlineElectric Vehicle EV applications due to their simple and rugged newlineConstruction They have excellent torque speed characteristics high torque newlinedensity and simple drive train system This thesis proposes the design newlineanalysis fabrication and testing of a three phase 6 8 pole SRHM In order to newlinepredict the performance of the SRHM Finite Element Analysis FEA has newlinebeen utilized newlineA design procedure similar to that used for the conventional SRM newlineDesign has been adapted and an SRHM with six stator poles and eight rotor newlinepoles is designed Subsequently a two dimensional 2 D electromagnetic newlineFEA has been performed to verify whether the machine with the designed newlinedimensions meets the specifications newlineThe machine has been fabricated A power controller consisting of newlinethe classical bridge converter with the necessary position sensor and logic newlinecircuits have been designed and fabricated A test setup is built and the newlinemachine is tested using a loading arrangement which is coupled to the rotor newlineof the motor FEA and experimental results of torque speed characteristics of newlinethe machine are compared newline newline%%%appendix p143-151, reference p152-158.
