Abstract

Digital imaging is very essential in many applications such as object newlineRecognition biomedical instrumentation satellite imaging entertainment newlineMedia internet etc Images are frequently corrupted by impulse noise which newlineoccurs in the process of image acquisition transmission and storage newlineThe acquired image signal must be noise free to convey meaningful newlineinformation to the end user and to have very good visual presentations in newlineapplications like mobile phones medical imaging entertainment media etc newlineThus an effective de noising algorithm is essential to remove noise in images newlineThe overall objective of this thesis is to develop new and novel newlinerestoration algorithms for suppressing both Salt and Pepper Noise SPN and newlineRandom Valued Impulse Noise RVIN in digital images The performance of newlinethe proposed filters is evaluated both by quantitative standards as well as newlinevisual quality The metrics that are used as quantitative measures are viz newlinePeak Signal to Noise Ratio PSNR Mean Square Error MSE Structural newlineSimilarity Index SSIM and Image Enhancement Factor IEF The qualitative newlineanalysis of the restored images is observed by the human eye and the newlinevaluation focuses on the clarity of the image presence of noise patches and newlinepreservation of edges and fine detail newline%%%reference p211-219.
