Abstract

Single Input Single Output SISO system and Multi Input Multi newlineOutput MIMO systems are focused in this research work SISO system newlineconsists of spherical tank system and MIMO system consists of two systems newlinenamely boiler turbine unit and four tank system newlineThe transfer function is derived from the open loop response of real newlinetime setup of spherical tank system using LabVIEW software The input is newlineinlet flow of water lph and the output is the water level in the tank cm The newlineInternal Model Control based Proportional Integral IMCPI controller is newlinedesigned to control the level of the water in the tank The controller newlineparameters are tuned using three different optimization techniques newlinenamelyParticle Swarm Optimization PSO Bacteria Foraging BF and newlineBiogeography Based Optimization BBO The performance of the above newlinementioned controllers are compared for set point tracking and disturbance newlinerejection From the results it is inferred that the BBO based PI gives newlineminimum Integral Square Error ISE and better tracking performance newlineIMCPI controller is a linear controller which gives desired closed newlineloop response only in the linear region of operation For a nonlinear system newlinethe same PI controller will give different responses at different operating newline newline%%%appendix p172-173, reference p174-181.
