Abstract

This project focuses on decision-making behavior within Danish companies in relation to the administration of their telecommunication. Surveys and industry-reports have found the telecommunication industry too complex and un-transparent, due to high competitiveness and convoluted product differentiation. According to several telecommunication-experts, Danish companies are missing out cost savings and quality improvements, which questions the rationality of neo-classical thinking. Therefore, we have applied a critical approach to test the assumption of rational decision-making, with the theory of bounded rationality by Herbert A Simon. Amongst the quantitative data available, the Danish telecom provider TDC had conducted a benchmark report, which highlighted administrative problematics in relation to the telecom solutions. Furthermore, in order to gain an interpretative understanding of the tendencies, which TDC did not present, a hermeneutic approach has been applied towards an interview conducted with an Danish IT-manager from GroupM. Additionally, the report uses a triangulated approach, where a combination of qualitative and quantitative data are used in order to intensify the investigation with various perspectives. Ultimately, the project concluded in exemplifying a tendency, which illustrates that companies have satisficing behavior, when striving to perform rational decisions. Furthermore, other theoretical approaches are unveiled and subsequently an explanation to how one could start a consultant firm is presented.
