Abstract

Usually Social Entrepreneurs (SE) face difficulties when acquiring funding in Denmark. This research will investigate the problem through the case study of a social enterprise (Bybi), focusing on the interaction between Social Entrepreneurs and Funders. There are various discourses in the society and when interrelation takes place among them, misinterpretations due to discrepancies in community values and language can occur. We will deploy Critical Discourse Analysis to frame the study of the communication process and its hurdles. Subsequently, we will observe the construction of the complex social event of funding (selection and approach) as an interdiscursivity process, involving constitutive discourse from a variety of styles: business, legal and civic discourse. Lastly, we will highlight a few strategies Social Entrepreneurs may apply to navigate the challenges posed by the interaction with funders, based on the case study.
