Abstract

This project aims to display how the process differs when acquiring a first language, two first languages simultaneously or a second language. The linguistic elements are presented in First Language and Second Language and in bilingualism. We will be looking at Chomsky’s Nativist approach, as well as Behaviorism by Skinner. Also, socio-cultural theory by Vygotsky and the cognitive approach are used. A study will be conducted to find out whether bilinguals can perform as well as native speakers when it comes to comprehension and recall of an English passage. It is based on an original study of Ulla Connor, which was designed to examine how well first language English speakers recall a passage compared to second language speakers.
