Abstract

This project investigates to what extent has letter writing been substituted by computer mediated emailing amongst 20-25 year-old cross-cultural individuals. The study is grounded on a quantitative and qualitative enquiry to depict their adoption and perceived use and actuality of the former. Hereby, investigating their thoughts and recognition of each artefact’s apparent qualities and attributes, both material and immaterial, as well as their emergence in everyday life. All pertaining to today’s questioning of the impositions brought forward by technological advancement. Our enquiry resulted in presenting an obvious decline in the appearance of letter writing, as emailing inevitably accounted for the predominant method of communication. Furthermore, as the perceived advantage of emailing was clearly its affording practicality, letter writing still obtains a profound visibility, as a tool for expressive conduct. Though an unquestioning and deeper reflection towards the impact of technological influences remained untouched.
