Abstract
An improved representation of tropical-extratropical interactions would help to better predict weather on the medium-range to seasonal timescale. This requires to understand the physical mechanisms of the main processes and to identify systematic model errors. Focusing on these two aspects, this study investigates the interactions between two tropical weather systems and the midlatitudes in reanalyses and reforecasts from a climatological perspective.
