Abstract
We investigate the nonlinear Schrödinger equation in an abstract setting and derive a local existence theorem, which allows to reproduce and in some cases extend known results. We furthermore derive a new global existence theorem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation on certain 2-dimensional product manifolds.
